Two secondhand accounts sit behind the published time: Grant’s father reportedly gave a time close to 5:00 AM, and a 1969 biography separately describes the birth as “along toward 5 AM,” with the commonly cited figure landing closer to 6:00 AM. Neither is a document, and the two don’t quite agree with each other.
