Your Body Graph Already Knows How You're Meant to Make Money
Your profit potential isn't a mystery you have to figure out from scratch. It's written into your undefined centers and your third-line gate activations.
Most of us go looking for our “money gate” in the wrong place. We assume profit potential has to come from something defined and consistent, a center that’s always on, always reliable. In practice, it’s often the opposite. The openness in your chart is where you’re built to learn, to absorb, to become wise about a subject through sheer repeated exposure. And wisdom you’ve actually lived is exactly what people will pay you for.
The stream of capitalism runs through everyone’s chart
There’s a whole arc of gates in the bodygraph concerned with resourcing, ambition, and the material world, what I call the stream of capitalism. Every chart touches it somewhere, whether through a single gate or a full channel, and that’s part of why the “find your money gate” framing is misleading from the start. It suggests there’s one specific spot on your chart responsible for your income, when what’s actually happening is closer to an entire current running through multiple centers, showing up differently depending on what’s defined, what’s open, and where your third lines happen to land inside that current.
Start with your third lines
Any gate activation you carry on a third line is a clue. Third lines are the experiential lines. The ones that only make sense after trial and error, after doing something the wrong way a few times before you find what actually works. That trial-and-error knowledge is discomforting to sit inside of, but it’s genuinely useful to everyone who hasn’t gone through it yet. If you look at your own chart and find a third line sitting in an undefined center, you’re looking at a place where you’ve probably overdone it, gotten burned, and come out the other side with something real to teach.
I can walk you through this with my own chart because it’s the clearest way I know to show it. I have three undefined centers, each carrying a third-line gate activation, and each one points to a different flavor of how I’ve built an income around what I’ve lived through, not what I theorized about.
Openness is where you become a teacher
The undefined Heart Center, when it’s carrying that third-line wisdom, tends to show up as an interest in willpower, resourcing, and helping your people get what they need to thrive, less “how do I prove my own worth” and more “how do I help my tribe find work and provide for themselves.” That’s a very different orientation than the compulsively-proving-myself pattern that undefined Heart usually gets stereotyped as. Once you’ve lived both sides of it, you can teach the difference.
An undefined head or Ajna carrying a third line often shows up as being drawn to collaboration, genuinely enjoying the process of helping other people find their own inner truth, rather than handing them your answers. In my own chart, that specific gate activation is about exactly that: recognizing what’s genuinely inspiring, in myself and in the people I work with, and building a livelihood around helping other people recognize it too.
And when an entire center is open, not just a single gate, you get the deepest version of this: total openness means total capacity to absorb what’s true and reflect it back, which is precisely why so many teachers, coaches, and guides have wide-open charts. A single open gate gives you a specific lesson to metabolize and eventually teach. An entire open center gives you something bigger, a huge hook, the capacity to keep discovering what can be relied on as certain in an entire domain of human experience, then hand that discovery back to whoever needs it. The opening isn’t a weakness to manage. It’s the mechanism, and the size of the opening roughly tracks the size of the potential built into it.
The third line that runs through your life’s work
Not every third line carries the same weight. Some sit as a single gate activation inside an open center and point to a narrow, specific lesson. But when a third-line gate activation shows up as part of your actual incarnation cross, the life theme you’re here to work out over a whole lifetime, it tends to carry a much bigger wisdom potential. Mine is exactly that kind of third line: the capacity to commit to something, or to a process of discovery, so completely that I genuinely don’t always know when enough is enough. I’ve overdone this work more times than I can count. But that same overdoing is precisely what taught me the other half of the lesson, the half worth teaching: how to recognize when to stop, when to say no, and how to help other people find that same boundary in themselves before they burn through it the hard way. The gate that carries the capacity to say yes to something completely is, not coincidentally, the same gate that carries the capacity to say no. You don’t get access to one without eventually being forced to learn the other.
Every open center is also a sales mechanism
Here’s the part that surprises people: the profit potential hiding in your open centers isn’t limited to teaching. It’s also, quite literally, your ability to sell. Wherever a center is open in your chart, you have a natural capacity to sell other people on whatever that center governs, because you’ve spent your whole life absorbing and studying it from every angle available. The catch, and it matters, is the difference between selling to someone’s fear and selling to their actual truth. An open center makes you a sucker for a subject in the best sense, endlessly curious, endlessly willing to learn more about it, and that same hunger is what makes you credible when you talk about it to someone else. Used well, that’s the foundation of real teaching. Used carelessly, it’s easy to slide into selling people a version of themselves that isn’t actually true, just because you know exactly which insecurity to press. The line between the two isn’t complicated to state, even if it takes real self-honesty to hold: are you activating someone’s genuine self, or just working an angle on their fear.
If your own third line sits somewhere this piece didn’t cover
I don’t have a third-line gate activation in my own undefined Spleen, so I haven’t spoken to what that particular combination would mean here, and I want to be direct about that rather than stretch my own chart to cover territory it doesn’t actually touch. That’s a useful model for how to read your own design too. If you’ve got an open center carrying a third line I haven’t walked through, whether that’s the Spleen, the Root, the Sacral, the Solar Plexus, or the Ajna, the same underlying method still applies: look at what that center governs, then ask what you personally learned the hard way, through trial and error, inside that specific territory. The mechanism doesn’t change from center to center. Only the subject matter does.
Interdependence is the message
There’s a thread running underneath all of this: openness in a chart isn’t a solo project. My own driving force leans hard toward collaboration, toward the conviction that we need each other, that figuring things out happens better together than alone. That’s central to the profit-potential conversation, not incidental to it. An undefined center only becomes wisdom through contact with other people’s energy, other people’s feedback, other people’s lived experience bouncing off your own. You don’t develop the wisdom of an open center in isolation. You develop it by staying in relationship with the very people and situations that keep testing it.
You don’t have to invent your material
None of this means making things up. If your natal design is Projected, in particular, your value comes from recognizing systems that already exist and guiding people through them, not authoring something new from nothing. I teach Ra’s system because it’s not mine to reinvent; my profit potential comes from having lived it, tested it against my own third-line gates, and being able to hand that lived experience to someone else in a form they can actually use.
If you want to find your own version of this, pull out your chart and look for every place you’re open with a third line sitting in it. Ask yourself honestly: what did I learn the hard way there? What do I now know that I wish someone had told me before I found out myself? That’s not just your wound. In Human Design terms, it’s your profit potential: waiting to be lived through one more time, on purpose, for someone else’s benefit.
There’s a real difference between doing this exercise once as a curiosity and actually building a livelihood around what it turns up, and I want to be honest about that gap. Finding the gate is the easy part. What takes longer is the actual living: putting yourself back through enough real situations in that territory that your wisdom stops being theoretical and starts being something you can hand to someone else with total confidence. That’s not a weekend project. It’s closer to an ongoing practice, the same practice that turned my own three undefined centers into an actual body of work instead of three interesting facts about my chart.
If you’re a Manifesting Generator or Generator reading this, the same third-line method applies, though the way you move through the trial and error tends to look more visceral and immediate than a Projector’s. And if you’re a Manifestor, your own version of this often shows up less as collaboration and more as initiating into territory nobody’s mapped yet, then teaching from what you find there. The centers and gates involved will differ from mine. The underlying mechanism, learning something the hard way and then handing it forward, doesn’t change by Type.
