Human Design and Hormones by Center: The Endocrine Map Underneath the Bodygraph

One of the pieces of this system I find most people skip past too quickly: every center in the bodygraph correlates to specific organs and endocrine glands. This isn’t a metaphor layered on top of the mechanics. Misusing a center’s energy, running it from the mind instead of correct Strategy and Authority, has a real, physical cost in the corresponding gland.

Throat and thyroid

This is the clearest example I teach, because I’ve lived it myself. The Throat Center’s biology is the thyroid, which governs metabolic function throughout the body. Ra was direct about this: when throat gates operate outside a person’s actual definition, type, and authority, thyroid problems are a common result. I carry gates that, used incorrectly, contributed to my own Hashimoto’s diagnosis. Twenty million Americans have thyroid issues, and I’d argue a meaningful number of those are throat gates being run by the mind instead of correct expression.

Root and adrenals

The Root Center carries the body’s adrenal, pressure-based energy. Gates 58 and 52 specifically are what I teach as the adrenaline gates of the logical process. But the broader pattern matters more than those two gates alone: adrenalized pressure that’s forced to run continuously, rather than spiking and resolving the way it’s built to, is where adrenal fatigue actually comes from. That’s true whether the pressure is genuinely yours or picked up from an undefined Root sampling the environment.

Solar Plexus as biochemical wave

The Solar Plexus runs on its own chemistry, an actual hormonal, biochemical wave, not a metaphorical one. I teach this directly to clients: your mind will always find a reason to justify, excuse, or rationalize whatever mood you’re in, because the chemistry is real and the mind wants a story to explain it. That’s why waiting out the wave before deciding anything matters so much for anyone with Solar Plexus definition. The hormone is driving the mood. The mind is just narrating it afterward.

Why this matters beyond biology class

I bring this up with clients because the physical stakes change how seriously people take following their actual Strategy and Authority. This isn’t only about better decisions or a more aligned life. Running centers incorrectly, from the mind instead of your correct mechanics, has a documented physical cost in the corresponding gland. That’s motivation a lot of people need that “just trust your design” alone doesn’t provide.

What to do with this

If you’re dealing with a hormone-related health issue, thyroid, adrenal, or otherwise, it’s worth asking honestly whether the corresponding center’s energy has been running from your mind rather than your actual Strategy and Authority. This isn’t a substitute for medical care. It’s a real, physical layer of this system that’s easy to overlook until the body starts insisting on it.
