The Five Channels of the Sensing Circuit, Gate by Gate

The Sensing circuit runs through five specific channels, not one undivided feeling, and each one carries a different piece of the same long story. I have a lot of this circuitry defined, and after years of teaching it, the architecture is what strikes me most, more than the emotion itself. Once you see the five channels as steps in a single sequence, the whole circuit stops feeling like chaos and starts feeling like a plot.

Why “abstract” doesn’t mean vague

If you have a gate or channel activated anywhere in this circuit, you’re considered abstract, whether you’re conscious of it (black on your chart) or unconscious of it (red, or partially red). Abstract is one of three distinct time pressures running through the bodygraph, and seeing all three side by side is what makes the abstract flavor click. A logical person, running the Understanding circuit’s time pressure, wants to be exactly punctual: there’s a rhythm to existence, and arriving right on time honors it. An individual person, unconsciously, lives entirely in the now: no patience for waiting, a real melancholy when nothing new is happening. A tribal person carries a timeless pressure instead, the kind bound up in ritual and memory: the tribe doesn’t forget, the tribe holds grudges and holidays with the same intensity, because tribal glue depends on things sticking.

Abstract sits apart from all three. If you’re abstract, showing up exactly on time feels like showing up late, because there’s an expectation running underneath that you might miss something if you’re not early. That’s not anxiety and it’s not a personality quirk. It’s the same pressure to imagine that opens this circuit, showing up as a felt need to arrive ahead of the moment rather than into it. Once you recognize it as the circuit’s mechanic rather than a flaw to fix, the expectation itself gets a lot easier to release.

Where the pressure begins

The Root opens the sequence with Gate 41, a pressure to imagine: to feel, ahead of any evidence, that something is about to happen. That pressure travels up to the Solar Plexus through Gate 30, which recognizes it as desire and lights it into a wanting worth chasing. Together they form the Channel of Recognition: the opening scene, before the story has any content yet, just the ache to have one.

The middle nobody gets to skip

From there the Channel of Transitoriness carries it further: Gate 36 turning that desire into an actual crisis of inexperience, something you have to walk into without knowing the outcome, and Gate 35 at the Throat pushing for the next new thing the moment the last one stops teaching you anything. This is the jack-of-all-trades signature: feeling comes, gets metabolized, and moves on. You cannot read the last page first here. The middle is the whole point, and the emotional wave that so often rides alongside this circuit is exactly why patience with the middle matters more than getting a fast answer.

Turning confusion into a story worth telling

Two channels handle what the experience actually meant. Gate 64 floods the Head with unresolved impressions from everything already lived, and Gate 47 in the Ajna presses those impressions until they click into realization, the Channel of Abstraction. From there, Gate 11 offers up ideas worth voicing, and Gate 56 at the Throat turns them into the telling itself, the Channel of Curiosity, built to narrate. Notice what’s missing from both: no Heart center anywhere in this circuit. Nothing here is proven or muscled into place. It’s arrived at, then spoken.

Where the cycle lands, and restarts

The Channel of Discovery closes the loop. Gate 46 is the G Center’s love of simply being in a body, in the right place, for the experience itself. Gate 29 at the Sacral is the total, unreasoning commitment that makes a Generator or Manifesting Generator succeed where a half-committed effort fails. But 29 has to be asked, same as anywhere else, a Projector waits for invitation, a Manifestor informs before moving. Once the experience completes here, it doesn’t just end. It becomes the story that gets told to the next person, which is how this circuit actually teaches: not through data, but through somebody else’s finished journey.

A small mechanical note, if you run abstract

That early-arrival pressure stands separate from the time-pressure comparison above, because it tends to get misread as anxiety when someone points it out to you. It isn’t. It’s the mechanic doing exactly what it’s built to do. Naming it as the circuit rather than a personal failing is usually enough to loosen its grip.

You can’t skip to the end

Every channel in this circuit shares one non-negotiable feature: none of it can be rushed or read out of order. You’re born, you live, you die, and nobody gets to skip straight to the last chapter and call it a life. The same is true reading a book. Skip to the ending as a kid and the whole thing falls flat, because the middle was where the actual meaning lived. This circuit works the same way. It has a real beginning, a real middle, and a real end, and the sensing process depends on all three happening in sequence, not on getting to the resolution faster.

That’s why it’s more accurate to picture this circuit as a spiral than a circle. A circle implies you end up back where you started, stuck. A spiral keeps returning to familiar territory (imagination, desire, crisis, realization, telling) while actually moving somewhere new each time. Each full pass through the five channels isn’t a repeat. It’s a deepening, a more mature version of the same process, assuming you let the middle actually happen instead of forcing your way to a conclusion.

Succeeding where others fail (and the reverse)

The Channel of Discovery, the one that closes this circuit at Gate 46 and Gate 29, has a specific signature: succeeding where others fail. Call it mechanics, not arrogance. Total, unreasoning commitment to an experience, once it’s correctly invited or initiated, tends to produce results other people can’t replicate by trying harder or thinking smarter. But the same channel has an opposite failure mode: failing where others succeed. That happens when Gate 29’s total commitment gets deployed without waiting to be asked first, initiating and pushing rather than responding to what’s actually been invited. The gate itself doesn’t change. What changes is whether the commitment arrived through correct strategy or got forced into motion by the mind.

The skin of the bodygraph

Both the Sensing circuit and the Understanding circuit sit on the outer edge of the bodygraph, running through the Head, Ajna, Throat, G Center, and further out through the Root and Solar Plexus. I think of these two circuits together as the skin: the part of the design that holds everything else together, facing outward, sandwiching the more internal circuitry in between. That outer position is consistent with the Heart center’s absence from all five channels, noted earlier: this circuit isn’t built to prove anything or muscle its way into place. It faces out, the way skin does.

That collective orientation is what separates this circuit’s channels from anything strictly personal. What gets generated here isn’t a private discovery meant to stay private. It’s material meant to circulate, one person’s completed journey becoming another person’s shortcut through a mistake they’ll now never have to make themselves.

The witness at the end of the story

There’s a specific role this circuit produces once the full cycle has run its course: someone designed to be an authority from lived experience, not just their own experience, but the experience other people bring to them and trust them to hold. When someone shares something vulnerable with a person carrying this circuit strongly, that story doesn’t just get heard and forgotten. It gets stored, almost like genetic memory, to be offered back out later to whoever actually needs it. That’s the real function of this circuit’s endpoint: not performing wisdom, but having actually walked far enough into an experience to know something true about it, and having the patience to wait until the right person is standing in front of you before you say it.

That’s also why none of this works if you try to force the telling before the experience has actually finished. The urge to share half-processed feelings, before Gate 64’s flood of impressions has actually resolved into a real realization through Gate 47, produces noise instead of story. The circuit rewards patience with the middle far more than it rewards speed to the microphone.

This circuit tells you what kind of story you’re built to metabolize and eventually share. It doesn’t tell you when to say yes.
