The Life Force: The Channels

Most Human Design study happens at the gate level. Channels get a name and a keynote, and students move on. In this series Ra comes back to the channel as a unit of its own: what happens when the gates at both ends are activated and definition runs between two centers. He taught it in 2008 as eleven lectures, sold by Jovian as eleven audio lessons of about an hour each with the ebook transcript, and he opens by remarking that he had not given a course specifically on the channels since the mid 1990s.

The lectures move through the BodyGraph by family. They start with the pressure channels from the Head to the Ajna and the channels that carry thought from the Ajna to the Throat, then go through Integration as the survival force of the individual, the channels of identity between the G Center and the Throat, the Tantric channels, and the Format channels from the Root. The second half covers the collective channels of logic and abstraction, the individual mutating channels, and the tribal channels of preservation and support, closing on the Heart Center and the tribe. Each channel is presented as a force with a function in the larger program, the not-self expression of that force comes up next to it, and the lectures keep returning to the experiment of Strategy and Authority.

This is Level I material because definition is where a synthesis starts. When an analyst knows what force each channel carries and where it sits in its circuit, the definition section of a reading can be spoken as one connected structure, and the open centers can be read against it. That circuit logic is what lets a client recognize themselves in the reading.

The IHDS curriculum lists the Life Force ebook as recommended reading for Rave Cartography, so many students meet it before Analyst Training. It pays back a second pass in Level I, when the same channels have to be keynoted in a specific person's chart and woven into the rest of the design. Jovian published the transcript as a digital book for newcomers, which makes it approachable at any stage.
