An undefined Heart has no consistent willpower of its own, and no fixed sense of self-worth. Around defined Hearts it amplifies will energy and then overcommits, promising more than it can sustainably deliver. The core conditioning theme is proving: working harder, promising bigger, and undervaluing yourself to demonstrate worth that was never actually in question.
An undefined Solar Plexus doesn't generate emotions but takes in and amplifies everyone else's, often feeling their feelings more intensely than they do. The classic conditioning is avoiding confrontation and truth to keep the peace, becoming a chronic pleaser out of fear of triggering emotion. Healthy, it's an empathic screen that reads emotional weather with remarkable wisdom.

The Sun is in Gate 40 line 1, Aloneness in the line of the Investigator. The Earth is in Gate 37 line 1, Friendship in the same line.
Gate 40 sits in the Heart center and holds the willpower a community actually runs on. Somebody works, somebody provides, and in exchange the group gives back loyalty, food, a place at the table. The aloneness in this gate is the recovery period built into that arrangement. Will is a finite resource and it needs to be left alone to refill. The first line puts a condition on the whole exchange: before it agrees to carry anything, it wants to know exactly what is in the tank. Not an estimate offered by someone who wants the help. An honest count taken in private, by you, of your own capacity.
Today moves at the speed of verification. Where a commitment gets made without anyone establishing the ground underneath it, that commitment comes back for renegotiation later, and it comes back more expensive. Where somebody takes the time to gather enough to feel secure and then says yes, the yes holds. The question worth asking out loud is a simple one: how do we know this. If the answer is that a trusted person said so, the foundation is still missing. If the answer is that it was measured, read, compared and can be checked by anyone, the foundation is there and the work can start.
The misreading of a first line is that all this checking is stalling. It looks like reluctance from the outside, especially to people who want a decision now and have already decided what the decision should be. The checking is the fastest available route to a commitment that survives contact with reality. The matching misreading of Gate 40 is that pulling back from the group is a rejection of the group. The withdrawal is what makes the return possible. A person who never gets their aloneness ends up resentful in the middle of the community they were trying to serve, and resentment breaks bargains that generosity built.
The wider field backs this up. The Sun and Earth complete 40-37 on their own today, the bargain running between the provider and the family, so the theme is not private. It is a negotiation between people about who does what and what they get for it. Gate 30 and Gate 41 also complete, with the North Node at 30.6 and Pluto at 41.2, adding hunger for an experience that has not started yet, which is exactly the pressure that makes people commit early. Mercury sits beside the Sun in 40.2, shaping the words for what will be asked. Venus in 32.1 is weighing what is durable enough to keep, Saturn in 21.5 is holding a line on control, and Neptune in 25.6 has misinformation in the air, which is the practical reason to find out for yourself rather than accept the version being handed around. Mars in 39.3 will provoke, and the Moon in 22.2 will make the provocation feel personal.
The useful move is small. Pick the one agreement in front of you that everyone assumes is solid, take an hour alone with it, and find out whether it is. Then commit with your whole weight, or decline cleanly and free up the strength for something that will hold.
