In Memory of Jesse Jackson: Undertakings, Not Jobs
Jesse Jackson was a 6/3 Splenic Manifestor on the Left Angle Cross of Endeavor, self-reported and corroborated by his own account. The only Manifestor in this series, on the one cross built for a life of sustained, transpersonal effort.

Rev. Jesse Jackson died February 17, 2026, at his home in Chicago, surrounded by family. He was 84, and his own family said it plainest: he was a servant leader, not only to them but to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the world. I want to look at the chart underneath that sentence, because it is, mechanically, unlike anyone else’s in this series, and the difference turns out to explain the shape of the life exactly.
His most-used chart is self-reported: October 8, 1941, 2:15 PM, Greenville, South Carolina, a time Astro-Databank rates A, quoted by a colleague who asked Jackson himself. Two other times circulate, a family account of 3:30 PM and a biography’s 9:00 AM, and I want to be straight about that rather than pretend the record is cleaner than it is. Jackson himself settled it better than any of us could: in a July 19, 1988 convention address, he described his own birth as happening “late one afternoon,” which fits 2:15 PM and rules out a nine o’clock morning. Run the 2:15 PM chart and here’s what comes back:
| Type | Manifestor |
| Strategy | Inform before you act |
| Authority | Splenic |
| Profile | 6/3 |
| Definition | Single Definition |
| Cross | Left Angle Cross of Endeavor 2 (48/21 | 53/54) |
| Signature / Not-Self | Peace / Anger |
| Data | A record, self-reported, 2:15 PM EST, Greenville, SC |
He is the only Manifestor in this whole series. Everyone else here is a Generator, built to wait and respond. He was built to act on an inner urge and tell people afterward, the one type that doesn’t wait for an invitation, and that mechanical fact alone is a decent starting place for a man who spent sixty years walking into rooms nobody had asked him into yet.

Jesse Jackson’s natal bodygraph, 6/3 Splenic Manifestor: Design and Personality, activated at birth.
Undertakings, not jobs
His conscious Sun sits in Gate 48, Depth, line 6: the deepest well in the bodygraph and the fear that guards it, on a line that finds its own fulfillment in the well itself, depth as a way of being rather than a means to applause. His conscious Earth sits in Gate 21, the Hunter, also line 6: willpower built to control its own territory, the drive to manage resources on behalf of the tribe, on a line that leads by example, self-mastery before managing anyone else’s affairs. Together they set his Left Angle Cross of Endeavor, and the cross’s own page names the shape of it better than I could improve on: some people have jobs. He had undertakings. Left Angle means the theme cannot complete itself alone. It needs other people’s crises, other people’s rooms, to become what it’s for.
He was ordained in 1968, two years before he’d technically finished his seminary coursework, and didn’t receive the actual degree he’d have been due until 2000, when Chicago Theological Seminary granted it based on thirty-two years of the work itself standing in for the diploma. That is Gate 48’s fulfillment sitting in the well rather than waiting on the credential, decades before the institution caught up to what the well already held. Operation PUSH in 1971, the National Rainbow Coalition in 1984, two presidential campaigns that were never really about winning the office so much as about proving the tribe deserved a seat at the table where resources got managed, that’s Gate 21’s territory, run at full scale.
The martyr underneath the model
His unconscious Sun sits in Gate 53, Beginnings, line 3: Root pressure to open a new cycle, on a line that learns by launching, stumbling, and adjusting, false starts as the actual curriculum. His unconscious Earth sits in Gate 54, Ambition, also line 3: the drive to rise, materially and spiritually, on a line that learns through overreach, each rejected advance teaching it how rising actually works. His profile is 6/3, Role Model over Martyr, and its own page calls that combination “observer above, experimenter below”: a conscious sixth line that spends fifty-plus years as a fixed public reference point, riding on top of an unconscious third line that never stops testing reality underneath, not even after the roof opens.
That’s a fair account of the two halves of his public record. The launches: Operation Breadbasket, then PUSH after a break with Ralph Abernathy, then the Rainbow Coalition, each one a Gate 53 beginning that had to find its own workable form by trial. And the overreach that taught him something real: his own account of being present at the Lorraine Motel balcony when King was shot has been disputed for decades by others who were there, including Abernathy, who placed him in the parking lot rather than beside King. I’m not going to adjudicate a fifty-year dispute in a Human Design piece. I’ll say only that a conscious sixth-line role model, standing on an unconscious third line that learns through exactly this kind of contested, imperfect account of its own history, is not a coincidence this chart would be surprised by.
One circuit, three centers, no motor to spare
Single Definition means his defined centers run as one circuit with no gap for another person to bridge, and his is the sparest in this whole series: Spleen, Heart, and Throat, joined by two channels only. The Wavelength fuses his Gate 48 depth to Gate 16’s enthusiasm, skill built through repetition until doing becomes art, “depth gains an instrument, skill gains a soul.” The Channel of Money fuses Gate 21’s territorial will to Gate 45’s Throat, the tribe’s material command structure, an executive without needing to ask permission for the legitimacy. Between them, that’s a design built to speak (Throat), to fight for territory (Heart), and to sense in an instant what’s healthy for the group (Spleen), with no Sacral motor at all. He was never built to generate the movement himself. He was built to see it clearly, once, and say so.
Splenic authority is the fastest, quietest decision-maker in the whole system, a single instinctive knowing in the now that doesn’t repeat itself and doesn’t explain itself well after the fact. Paired with a Manifestor’s strategy, inform before you act, that’s a design built for exactly what he became known for: showing up somewhere he hadn’t been invited, saying the thing once, clearly, and moving before the room had finished deciding how to respond to him.
Saturn Return, 1971
Saturn returns to its own natal position roughly every twenty-nine years, auditing whatever was never built to last. His fell June 1, 1971, transiting the same natal Gate 8 his own Saturn and Uranus both already occupy at birth, Contribution, in the Throat: the drive to hold up something original and say this matters, look at this.

Natal chart against the June 1971 Saturn Return transit, age 29: the year he leaves Operation Breadbasket to found PUSH.
That December, after conflict with Abernathy over the direction of Operation Breadbasket, he resigned and founded Operation PUSH on his own terms. A Throat gate about original contribution, audited in the same year he stopped contributing inside someone else’s structure and built one that carried his own name instead, is a return doing exactly the job a return is supposed to do. This Saturn Return carried its own temporary cross: the Left Angle Cross of Identification (16/9 | 63/64).
Uranus Opposition, 1981
Uranus takes eighty-four years to complete its circuit, so the opposition lands at the loudest, most disruptive point most people see before sixty. His fell February 11, 1981, transiting Gate 14, Power Skills, in the Sacral, a center he doesn’t carry natally: the chart’s fuel depot, generative power that converts loved work into resources.

Natal chart against the February 1981 Uranus Opposition transit, age 39: the fundraising machine behind two presidential runs starts compounding.
The early 1980s are when Jackson’s fundraising and institution-building around PUSH and the Wall Street Project began compounding into the resource-and-leverage machine that would fund two national presidential campaigns within the decade. A Manifestor with no Sacral motor of his own, opposed by transiting Uranus through the Sacral’s own resource gate, is a chart being handed, for one loud season, access to the very fuel it doesn’t generate on its own. This Uranus Opposition carried its own temporary cross: the Left Angle Cross of Revolution (49/4 | 14/8).
Chiron Return, 1992
Chiron’s return, close to fifty, is the one astrologers call the wounded healer coming home: whatever a person has spent a life managing or protecting tends to surface here and ask to be made useful instead of hidden. His fell July 30, 1992, two weeks after he’d addressed the Democratic National Convention in Madison Square Garden, a speech on the program’s “Hope” night that pressed the party on statehood for Washington, D.C., on jobs and health care, on an inclusive Rainbow Coalition wide enough to hold the room he was speaking to.

Natal chart against the July 1992 Chiron Return transit, age 50: two weeks after his Democratic National Convention address.
It was his third convention on that stage in eight years, the first two as a candidate himself in 1984 and 1988. By 1992 the undertaking had outgrown the campaign that started it: no run of his own that year, just the same demand for a seat at the table, made from the floor rather than the ballot. A design built to show up somewhere uninvited and say the thing once, arriving at the exact life-stage astrology marks for turning what you’ve carried privately into something useful in public, spent that particular July doing exactly that, from a podium, two weeks before the return became exact. This Chiron Return carried its own temporary cross: the Left Angle Cross of The Alpha (31/41 | 24/44).
Second Saturn Return, 2000
The second Saturn Return, close to fifty-nine, tends to arrive as ratification rather than crisis, proof of ground already covered. His fell July 13, 2000, back through the same natal Gate 8.

Natal chart against the July 2000 second Saturn Return transit, age 58: the year Chicago Theological Seminary finally grants his degree.
That same year, Chicago Theological Seminary granted him the Master of Divinity degree he’d left three courses short of in 1966, thirty-four years earlier, crediting his life’s work in place of the missing coursework. Contribution, audited twice, thirty years apart: once when he walked away from an institution to build his own, once when the institution finally caught up and said so in writing. This second Saturn Return carried its own temporary cross: the Right Angle Cross of Maya (62/61 | 42/32).
What his design leaves behind
He married Jacqueline Lavinia Brown on December 31, 1962, a marriage that lasted until his death, over sixty-three years, and they raised five children together, including a son, Jesse Jackson Jr., who would go on to serve in Congress. In 2001, he publicly acknowledged a sixth child, a daughter born in 1999 from a relationship with a former staffer, a fact that became public shortly after he’d served as an informal spiritual counselor to a president during a different scandal entirely, a juxtaposition the press did not let pass at the time. I’m naming it because an honest account does, not to dwell on it.
He lived with Parkinson’s disease from a 2017 diagnosis and, the public learned only in his final year, with progressive supranuclear palsy underneath it, a decade-long undisclosed second diagnosis that finally caught up to him. No specific cause of death was ever released. What the family offered instead was a request: that anyone wanting to honor him keep fighting for the values he lived by, rather than simply mourning that he was gone.
His family’s statement closed on the same note his whole design opens on: “We shared him with the world, and in return, the world became part of our extended family.” That is the transpersonal completion a Left Angle cross runs on, stated by the people who actually had to share him. Human Rights Watch put the balance sheet the way I’d want mine read someday: the country is a better place because he was in it.
His last Solar Return, and the day he died
Jackson died on February 17, 2026, at his home in Chicago, surrounded by family, as the Washington Post reported that day. No time of death was made public, and none is guessed at here. A Solar Return runs on birth data alone, the chart of the sky on a person’s own birthday, so his last one, October 8, 2025, needs only the same self-reported 2:15 PM this whole post already stands on.
It also comes with a catch, and the catch sits in his natal chart. For most charts in this series, computing the return at the birthday’s own clock time lands the transiting Sun comfortably back inside the natal Sun’s gate. His chart breaks the convention: his conscious Sun sits at the very end of the sixth line of Gate 48, within a fraction of a degree of the border with Gate 57, a gap smaller than the Sun’s ordinary year-to-year calendar drift. By 2:15 PM on his final birthday the transiting Sun had already crossed that border, so his birth clock time reads back a sky that had moved past his position. His true return has to be pinned to the minute in Maia Mechanics before its field can be stated, and pinned it was: the return falls late on the evening of October 7, 2025, the night before the birthday, with Sun and Earth back on Gate 48 and Gate 21 to the tone. Three channels reached into his design at that minute: 17-62 Acceptance, the 25-51 Channel of Initiation, and 3-60 Mutation, the sky’s Gate 3 meeting the Gate 60 his design Moon holds while Pluto carried the channel’s other end. The fit is hard to miss: the one Manifestor in this series, whose splenic authority ran on a single knowing that fires in the moment and never repeats itself, ended on a return that can only be caught the same way, in the exact moment, and only there.
