A transit conditions wherever you have openness: most simply an entire Center that's undefined in your own chart, but an open gate or channel inside an otherwise defined Center picks it up too. Defined, with the gate itself activated, runs its own steady theme regardless of what the sky is doing.
Throat
An undefined Throat has no consistent voice of its own; how you speak changes with the company you keep. The conditioning theme is trying to attract attention: talking to be noticed, interrupting, or acting under pressure to prove you exist. Healthy, the undefined Throat waits to be invited into conversation and can become a gifted, versatile communicator.
Root
An undefined Root absorbs and amplifies the stress pressure around it, feeling it more intensely than the people generating it. The classic conditioning is hurrying to be free of the pressure: rushing tasks, saying yes to get things over with, living in a permanent race to an empty inbox. The wisdom side is knowing which pressures are actually worth acting on.

Gate 31 line 3 leads by trying, being wrong in front of everyone, and adjusting. Gate 41 line 3 wants the same way, by reaching, getting it, and discovering the reach cost more than the thing was worth. Roughly 70% of today’s field runs through this pair, one held by the Sun and the other by the Earth.
Gate 31 is influence: a voice a room follows, when it has earned that following. Gate 41 is the pressure to feel something new, the first step into every experience a life will go on to have. On the third line, both of them learn exclusively by getting it wrong first. Nothing about this line researches its way to the right call in advance. The failed attempt is the method.
An alliance gets made and then unmade in the same news cycle today, a bid renewed and refused a second time, a test that had to run its full course before anyone could trust the result. That is the third line doing its ordinary work, finding out what was true by trying the thing and watching what happens when it does not hold.
A 31.3 day tempts people into treating the failed attempt as a verdict on the whole undertaking, rather than as the one piece of information this line could not have gotten any other way. A bond that breaks under a third-line day is data about that particular bond, not proof that trying to lead, or trying to want something, was the wrong move to begin with.
Underneath, the Moon in Gate 10 and Uranus in Gate 20 complete 20-10, the Channel of Self-Expression: behavior that follows conviction in the moment, the “if it feels right, do it” wiring from the G Center to the Throat. 45-21 and 30-41 are both still running as well, so control of resources and the pressure to want are holding steady while the third line does its trial-and-error work elsewhere in the chart. The Nodes have not moved: still 30.6 and 29.6, holding the long arc of desire and commitment while today does its detail work underneath them.
