Franklin D. Roosevelt's Bardo: The Unfinished Portrait

Ra Uru Hu taught the Bardo, the structured unraveling that follows physical death, using his own passing in 2011 as the worked example his students would carry forward. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s chart gives the series a case documented at both ends of the life: a quoted birth certificate at one end, and at the other a death with a physician in the room, a White House announcement within hours, and a painter at her easel when it happened.

What happened at Warm Springs

Roosevelt spent early April 1945 at the Little White House in Warm Springs, Georgia, the polio-rehabilitation retreat he had been returning to for two decades. On April 12 he sat for a portrait by the painter Elizabeth Shoumatoff, signing papers while she worked. Early in the afternoon he put a hand to the back of his head and said he had “a terrific pain,” by the accounts of those in the room, then slumped forward, unconscious. His physician diagnosed a massive cerebral hemorrhage, and he was pronounced dead at 3:35 PM, sixty-three years old, eighty-two days into his fourth term, twenty-six days short of Germany’s surrender. The National Constitution Center’s account draws that timeline from the attending physician and the White House announcement. Shoumatoff never completed the watercolor; it hangs at Warm Springs today as the Unfinished Portrait.

Where transit Earth stood

In Ra’s teaching, physical death is the moment the two aspects of a design responsible for placing a person in a life, and for animating the body itself, separate from the physical form for good. What stays behind for a while is the personality: memory, conditioning, self-image, still running even though the vehicle that carried them is gone. Ra taught that this winds down on a schedule, three line-positions in a row, the order set entirely by wherever transiting Earth stood, by gate and line, at the instant of death.

At 3:35 PM Eastern War Time on April 12, 1945 (7:35 PM Greenwich time under the year-round wartime clock), computed directly in Maia Mechanics, Human Design Professional Software licensed from Jovian Archive, transiting Earth sat in Gate 32, line two. Gate 32 is the Spleen’s Gate of Continuity, the instinct for what can endure, and its second line, on the living side of the wheel, “trusts its own read on what endures, unmoved by the crowd’s excitement.” Continuity, of all gates, grounding the wheel at the death of the only president Americans elected four times. A line-two entry opens a three-stage sequence of surrender, then chaos, then passage, typically closing out over roughly a day to a day and a half.

What this doesn’t reach for

Ra’s own teaching went a layer deeper for his own case, naming the specific planet exalted at the exact line his Earth held when he died. That layer belongs to the Rave I’Ching itself, and this site has no licensed source for it, so this piece stops at where transit Earth stood and which stage it opened.

What it leaves you with

None of this is offered so you’ll watch the sky for signs of your own ending. Ra taught the Bardo as evidence that the intelligence organizing a life keeps working past the last breath, and a death this well recorded, with the Gate of Continuity on the Earth while an unfinished watercolor sat on the easel, is another worked case where the argument can be checked against record rather than legend.
